Howdy,
There are many disappointed employees at Tecnitoys over the little new Digital Stuff in the catalog. There are many nice cars, which has been mentioned, but we need to keep the momentum going with a few new digital accessories each year as well.
The reason we don´t have any new Digital Accessories in the catalog goes back to a couple events in 2008. First, at the beginning of 2008, we felt we had a strong team for development of electronics between new employees in the company, our manufacturer and a subcontractor we work with. The development of the analog Race Manager, analog Time Manager, analog PitBox, Digital Stop Light, and Wireless controllers moved forward quite well during the first 6-8 months of the year.
Prototypes of these accessories worked relatively well, but when we prepared for production, we ran into some problems on each and decided to focus all resources on getting the analog pitbox, analog race manager, and SCX Compact motorcycles into the market, while letting a subcontractor focus on resolving the issues with the wireless hand controllers and analog Time Manager. As you know by now, the first three items did make it to market and the others continued slipping.
When we went to print on the catalog we had not resolved issues with the analog Time Manager, Digital Stop Light, or Wireless Hand Controllers, so we chose to not list them and build expectations that we were not certain we could meet. These items remain in development and I believe several of them will make it to market in 2009 (even if not in the catalog).
I will also say that we were working on some very cool new digital accessories during summer 2008 that were scheduled to be in the 2009 catalog. However, when we ran into issues on the 2008 releases, the projects for 2009 were put on hold.
I would imagine that many of you have to make such decisions in your own businesses and I hope you can understand the rationale for the decisions taken. SCX remains as committed to our Digital Platform as ever, and we were especially encouraged by the growth in unit sales during 2008 (even in light of the complicated economy). Please bear with us as we try to release new items that are both very engaging, but also work correctly with a high degree of quality.
Thanks again for your continued interest and confidence in SCX.
Chuck
